According to the technology applications inventory I do have enough knowledge to use technology in different forms but I do not know exactly how my computer works internally and how much RAM or storage devices there are. I do agree with the outcome of the assessments because they pretty much reflect the point of view I have about my use of technology. By reading the expectations of the TEA I do think that I can perform satisfactorily with the technology knowledge I have to teach my students to perform well in today's world at their age level, but I have to admit that it sounds like I can only perform basic software operations. Some of my strengths are that I am proficient on the use of a variety of input devices, I use the correct digital keyboarding standards, I can locate and acquire information from Internet, I can create and use video files, I know how to use the four types of tab settings, and work with the necessary tools for Word Processor, spreadsheet documents, etc. By having the knowledge of the previous mentioned skills I can successfully implement them in the classroom setting. On the other hand I am still weak in certain areas of technology and these are: I do not know how to use the Boolean search strategies, I do not understand the difference between vector graphic files and bitmapped graphic files, I do not know how to validate information from the iInternet, and I don't know how to delineate between the various digital file formats.
By completing the teacher survey from SETDA I could see that one of the problems that I am having is that I do not include in my lessons activities in which my students will have to interact using technology. For example I do show my student videos previously created by me, or I use a MOBI to teach different areas, but they are not required to use these tools because they are my audience. The students do interact during the instruction but this is done orally and they are not graded in the use of technology. I do think that as a future administrator I will have to make some changes to the way to deliver instruction if I expect my teachers to include their students in the use of this devices. One time a week for thirty minutes is not enough time for our students to become technology savvy, and this is one of the changes that will have to take place right away in my understanding of technology.
